As we’ve talked about many times in the past on our blog, video marketing is one of the top ways today to make your marketing strategy really appeal to as many customers as possible. But just throwing a video up from your iPhone isn’t necessarily the best solution.

Sometimes it takes a little creative thinking to stand out from the crowd when it comes to making your online videos work for you. With that in mind, here are three of the best tips that have worked best for us.

Grab Attention in the First Three Seconds - The unfortunate way of things in terms of online video is that you can often expect to only have a few precious seconds to catch someone’s attention within a social media feed. This makes those first two or three seconds crucial in terms of making sure you deliver your message.

In those first seconds, think about what it is that you want to convey. Is it the product you’re promoting? The character of your brand? The date and time of an upcoming event? It’s possible that you may only have this time to really gain attention, so use it wisely.

Plan Your Pitch, But Don’t Use a Script - In some cases, you do need a script. If you’re delivering a product announcement or a public relations speech, it can really be necessary in making sure you’re conveying an accurate message.

But in many other cases, it can be far more advantageous to not have a script and deliver the message more loosely and personally. We often tell our video subjects to look at the camera as if they were speaking to a good friend and not a lens. This assists them in being more genuine, down to Earth, and more believable and trustful. Using vocabulary and body language in an improvised way can often work in terms of coming across as natural.

Inject Personality - We work with a lot of great people and some of them can be really charismatic characters. That kind of personality is the kind that works well when they aren’t scripted, but they’re also the kind that can really stand out from the crowd and come across as genuine in web video.

If your employee, partner, or spokesperson has something that makes them unique on video, be proud of it! If you’re getting across the message already, having a little fun with it and letting their personality shine will make a customer appreciate the genuinity.
